The never ending wars of habitual aggressors are likely to end up as failures. The dreams of world domination, contradictory to the majority persist to play politics over the lives of men and resources. Like the fog of war based on failed intelligence reports led to the demise of our world influence, the loss of a $3T surplus to a $2.5T deficit in six years, intended for our governance. Worst still, is the planned attack on Syria and Iran. How much more did we learn?....Amor Patriae

It wasn't rock. It was gold, part of a hoard so vast it rewrote what we thought we knew about wealth in Southeast Asia before Europeans ever arrived. For three centuries, Spanish conquistadors tore through the Americas chasing the legend of El Dorado, a lost city of gold. They were on the wrong continent the entire time.
Long before Magellan's ships reached these shores, Filipino goldsmiths were casting sacred regalia so precise that European silversmiths admitted they could be fooled by it. Kings wore gold on their teeth. Boats were buried with their owners in gold. Then it all disappeared, not lost to time by accident, but buried on purpose, and then erased from memory by the conquest that followed. This is the story of how an empire's worth of gold vanished into the ground, and how a nation forgot it was ever rich.
